PROPOSED PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN DMICS AND GOVERNMENT OF GOA FOR ORGANIZING 7TH WCDM 2025

The World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) indeed stands out as a key platform that brings together experts from diverse fields to address the pressing challenges of disaster risk management. Since 2008, each iteration of WCDM has contributed significantly to enhancing the global dialogue on disaster risk reduction, resilience, and management strategies. The recurring success of WCDMs highlights the critical importance of sharing knowledge and best practices across countries and sectors.

It’s exciting that the 7th World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) will be hosted in Goa, especially with the collaboration between DMICS and the Government of Goa. This prestigious event will focus on key Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) issues. India's Prime Minister’s Ten-Point Agenda on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is a strategic framework to mainstream disaster management into the country's overall development and planning. During the sessions, this Ten-point agenda will also be emphasized.

This partnership can create a platform that strengthens regional disaster preparedness and aligns global strategies with local needs. Goa, with its coastal location and unique ecological environment, is an apt setting for discussions on disaster resilience, especially in the context of climate change, coastal management, and emergency response.

The invaluable support from Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Shri Puneet Goyal, IAS, Chief Secretary of Government of Goa, is a significant boost for the 7th WCDM. The Hon’ble Chief Minister’s leadership and the backing of the Government of Goa will undoubtedly elevate the event and ensure its success. With his expertise, WCDM has the potential to set a new standard for future disaster management conferences, focusing on impactful policy discussions, innovative solutions, and strengthened collaborations.

Dr. S. Ananda Babu and his team had an engaging and successful discussion with Shri Vishwajit Pratap Singh Rane, Hon'ble Minister of Finance, Health, Forests, and Women and Child Development, along with Shri Puneet Goyal, IAS, Chief Secretary of the Government of Goa, and Shri Sandip Jacques, IAS, Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management. Their involvement ensures that the 7th WCDM in Goa will have significant institutional endorsement and cross-sectoral support. With the event scheduled tentatively for the first week of June 2025, the early planning and high-level engagement will pave the way for a smooth execution of the global event.
